Enco Models was founded in 1980 by garage owner and classic car enthusiast Ernie Knott, who ran the Gordon-Keeble Car Centre in Brackley, Northants, England, along with Peter Comben, a designer and pattern maker who had previously worked for Corgi. Not surprisingly, their first model was a Gordon-Keeble sports car made of white metal in 1/43rd scale. Other models of sports cars from the 1960s and 1970s by Facel Vega, Jensen, Sunbeam, and Ferrari were soon added to the range. These were available ready-made or in kit form. The first models were assembled at the Gordon-Keeble Car Centre. After Ernie Knott had retired from the model car production in 1987, Peter Comben took over full control of the company. He closed his factory in 1995, but soon afterwards came in contact with Thomas Wolter of Tin Wizard and started making castings for him. This cooperation also allowed the survival of the model car range: Since 2002, Enco Models have been manufactured at the Tin Wizard factory in Germany.
